The Charlotte Research Institute (CRI) is the portal for business-university partnerships at UNC Charlotte, the urban research University for North Carolina. Regionally CRI works with the community and the campus to accelerate technology commercialization, increase the growth of entrepreneurial ventures, develop intellectual capital, partner in new business and research ventures to spur economic growth in the community, region, and state.

Research creates knowledge and that is the foundation of universities where knowledge is put to work. UNC Charlotte has brought together an exceedingly talented group of faculty who are interested in applied research and translating their results for cultural, social and economic impacts. CRI’s research vision continues to grow with emerging research initiatives that include bioinformatics, biomedical engineering and science, optoelectronics and optical communications, precision metrology, cyber defense and network assurability, infrastructure, design, environment and sustainability, life science, nanoscale science, motorsports, visualization and biology and translational research.

With state-of-art facilities on the Charlotte Research Institute Campus and at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, CRI helps companies initiate new partnerships and offers a variety of opportunities to engage talented faculty and make use of specialized resources available at UNC Charlotte.
