ORP hosted a campus visit with former German Ambassador to the Holy See/Vatican and former Federal Minister of Education and Research, Annette Schavan. As part of her multi-day visit to Charlotte, Ambassador Schavan spent a portion of the day meeting with Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, touring the UNC Charlotte campus and various research labs, and meeting with Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development Rick Tankersley and invited University guests. Ambassador Schavan delivered a guest lecture entitled, “Engaging Students to be Catalysts for Innovation” that was open to the UNC Charlotte campus community. She also met with representatives from GOM Americas, a German company with offices located in PORTAL. Ambassador Schavan was hosted in Charlotte by NC Zeitgeist Foundation Chairman Klaus Becker.

ORP partnered with University Communications and hosted its Media Campus Tour kick-off event in PORTAL. Approximately a dozen media outlets were given a UNC Charlotte campus tour narrated by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois. Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development Rick Tankersley provided media guests with an overview of the UNC Charlotte’s research enterprise and guided a “behind the scenes” tour of various campus labs. ORP continues to be a proud partner with the North Carolina Defense Business Association (NCDBA). PORTAL was the host location for the January NCDBA Business Alignment Forum which featured UNC Charlotte Political Science Professor James Igoe Walsh presenting on his recent book “Combat Drones and Support for the Use of Force”.
